The Crown Mountain Panorama!
Access the wilds from Vancouver without a vehicle. (That's right, you can ride the bus here!)Access to the peak of Crown Mountain is about 1 1/2 or 2 hours (minimum one-way) of not-for-the-faint-of-heart backcountry hike from the top of the Grouse Mountain Skylift or Grouse Grind. (While you're there, why not send them a nasty email for keeping grizzlies in captivity for profit?) There is also an alternate route from Lynn Headwaters.

You need the Quicktime player from Apple to see the 360 degree Quicktime Movie in this page. Then you need to be patient while the 1.6 Mb file downloads. But if you intend to visit the area or get to know the city's backyard, it's worth the wait.
The panorama starts facing more or less East towards Lynn Headwaters. If you scroll to the right you can clearly make out Goat Mountain, the Capilano Reservoir and the Burrard Inlet. Visit the GVRD (Greater Vancouver Regional District) parks pages for complete information on pretty much all of the area parks. |
