venus, goddess of love
by Jill Kirby | 27 june, 1999
She is known as the 'goddess of love and beauty'. In our solar system, she is the planet next door, just a little closer to the centre than our own home planet. Perhaps this is an indication that, in order to feel centred, we need love and beauty in our lives.
Impenetrable mists surround Venus. Is this symbolic of the mysterious nature of love? Who among us really understands what draws two people together - what makes us fall in love? Who can explain beauty, which, as we know, is in the eye of the beholder?
"Love is a beautiful thing, mysterious too."
Astrologically speaking, Venus represents the principle of attraction. It describes, in part, how we love, and what we find beautiful.
If you have Venus in Aries, you will probably be attracted to someone who is active, adventurous, and aggressive. You love excitement and passion, and once the spark is no longer there, the fire of love is gone.
Venus in Taurus loves comfort. You are drawn to someone you feel secure with; they should be reliable, practical, and preferrably, financially solid. You are very sensual, and appreciate the beauty of nature.
Communication is beautiful to those of you with Venus in Gemini. You love to read, to learn, to share ideas. You can be rather fickle when it comes to love, because you love variety.
Cancer Venus loves home and family. You are probably "the marrying kind". You like comfort, and often find comfort in food, especially if your love-life is under stress. You are drawn to someone who will either take care of you or whom you can care for.
Those of you with Venus in Leo are attracted to playful people and you enjoy all kinds of entertainment. Mostly, you are in love with love, and the drama of it all. You are drawn to someone who appreciates your beauty and will tell you so - often.
Venus in Virgo loves work. Efficiency is beautiful to you. You are attracted by someone who is clean, neat and well-groomed. Since you are probably a workaholic, you are most likely to meet Mr.or Ms. Right on the job.
Venus is perhaps most at home in Libra, whose symbol is the balance. You love harmony in all things, and enjoy art and music. You value fairness and equality and may feel incomplete without a partner.
The Scorpio Venus is intense. You need to relate on a deep emotional level. For you, a real relationship involves great passion and the love may last "until death do you part", even if the relationship doesn't. There is a tendency with this placement to be obsessive and possessive or to attract someone who is.
With Venus in Sagittarius, you love learning and travelling. Your love of adventure doesn't want to see you tied down, so you will be attracted to a free spirit.
The Venus in Capricorn gets more beautiful with age. You are often drawn to someone who is older or socially prominent. Like Taurus Venus, your attitude to love is practical - it is as easy to love someone rich as it is to love someone poor, so you might as well have the financial security. For you, love is commitment.
Aquarius Venus has a detached attitude to love. Friendship comes first. Love relationships, for you, must involve a great deal of freedom and excitement or you will feel smothered or bored and, probably, break it off.
Venus in Pisces seeks the ideal in a loved one, and can become disillusioned as a result. Love may mean sacrifice to you. At its best, this placement can mean a truly spiritual love; at its worst, an addiction to being in love.
Love is a beautiful thing, mysterious too.
